Inspiration: DIY, tiling and gardening
In addition to playing tributes to our favourite artists, The Dave Holt Band also come up with our own songs. We don't claim that they're amazing but they're fun to write play and that's the main thing!
Many people ask us where we get our inspiration from and unfortunately the reality is not very exciting. In my job as a part time handyman, I often get to do quite relaxing tasks such as gardening or tiling and it's during this time that I come up with little tunes or a few lyrics which I think fit quite well together. Laying tiles can be quite theraputic which I think is what makes my mind relax enough to form these songs. I then go back to the rest of the band and we come up with a complete song for us all to join in with. Some of our favourite songs are "Blue eyes", "One misty morning" and "Summer". I was once inspired to write a new version of 'New York, New York' when I visited an executive suite in Park Avenue. It's always fun to play your own songs and these ones always seem to go down well with the crowd. As well as playing our own songs we enjoy playing some of the classics from the golden era of music and putting our own polka-jazz twist on them. We think it sounds good and we hope you do too!
